Who is Lack of Light Records?

Lack of Light Records, owned by artist & producer, Jake Brower, was established in 2017 to serve as the main portal for San Francisco artist, Logyyk

Who is Logyyk?

From 2007 to 2017, Jake spent 10 years as Robot Bomb Shelter, touring the world producing live Techno on stage for both big and small festivals to clubs all over.  In 2016, Jake took all the learnings that he amassed as Robot Bomb Shelter and poured them into his new persona, Logyyk, where he is focused squarely in the darker Techno realms.  And while the music of Robot Bomb Shelter remains as a part of his legacy, Logyyk is his focus.

Jake is the man behind both artists and has been producing music since the mid 80s where his early influences came from many genres of music, including Industrial and EBM, to later influences in the realms of Techno and Electro.

Jake's musical career started while he was still in high school in the early 1980s where his deep love for synth-pop bands like Depeche Mode, Erasure, New Order, etc., fueled him to buy his first Casio synthesizer before MIDI was widely available.  In conjunction with synth-pop, Jake had  been introduced to EBM by hearing Front 242 on an underground radio and he was hooked.  From there, Jake sought to find out as much as he could from this new musical genre.  Bands like Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Cabaret Voltaire, Front Line Assembly, Nitzer Ebb became the backbone of musical inspiration as Jake set out on his career.  Jake also started learning the technology behind the bands and was able to save enough money to buy similar tech so he could start defining his own sound.  The dark and rigid beats that came out of this era really helped shape Jake's mindset around creating music that would make people get up and dance.

From the 1990s to 2000s, Jake moved into the Techno realms with influences from the likes of Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, The Prodigy, 808 State, Ellen Alien, Kraftwerk, etc.  With Techno splitting into multiple sub-genres, Jake absorbed as much as he could as there was a plethora of new sounds, new sounds and beats to use as inspiration.

In late 2007, Jake came up with the name, Robot Bomb Shelter, which helped launch him into a new phase of his career.  This new phase included touring the world creating live techno on stage for gigs and festivals big and small.  The big difference in how Jake was performing as Robot Bomb Shelter was that Jake was creating the sets live and on-the-fly; every performance was different.  On stage, Jake used a wide array of controllers and machines (referred to as controllerism) all routed through Ableton, which helped him create unique and memorable performances.  But, as Jake began to move into the darker realms of Techno, he knew that he didn't want to move Robot Bomb Shelter along with him...and then Logyyk was born.

Logyyk's current influences include Techno/Dark techno artists such as Darmec, UMEK, Oliver Huntemann, Niereich, Rrose, Helldriver, Matt Mus, Pig & Dan, Modeselektor, etc.

Always learning; always trying new things, Logyyk is forever on a journey of sound exploration (and making people dance).
